A 1905 'fix' for Bermuda’s crops turned into an ecological nightmare that still haunts the island today.
In 1905, Bermuda imported 71 Jamaican lizards to control crop pests. These lizards soon spread widely across the island. Research showed they ate beneficial insects like ladybirds and wasps instead of just pests. This caused major problems for the local ecosystem, as the lizards started preying on native wildlife too.
