An 80s 'quick fix' backfires: Invasive ferrets are now threatening a colony of 250,000 seabirds.
Ferrets were released on Northern Ireland's Rathlin Island in the mid-1980s to control rabbits. Decades later, they threatened a colony of more than 250,000 seabirds. The animals preyed on eggs and chicks, forcing conservationists to start the LIFE Raft project in 2021 to remove the predators and protect the wildlife.
