General insurers in India are shifting focus from pure volume to profitable underwriting, says a BCG report. Private insurers showed resilient performance through FY26, with a combined ratio of 109%. BCG noted, "These are the early signs of a market beginning to prioritise sustainable pricing over pure volume," as growth continues.
