RBI loan rules 2026: Banks may need borrower consent to change loan benchmark; know what happens to your EMI

The Reserve Bank of India proposed new rules requiring banks to get borrower consent before changing loan benchmarks. These directions, if finalised, take effect from 1 April 2027. The draft says migration cannot increase interest rates or attract fees. This move gives many borrowers better protection regarding their floating-rate loan EMIs.
