Syria sentenced Wassim al-Assad to death on Tuesday for premeditated murder and torture during the 14-year war. The 46-year-old cousin of former leader Bashar al-Assad led paramilitary groups that targeted civilians in Eastern Ghouta. Judge Fakhr al-Din al-Aryan said he committed “murder accompanied by torture and brutality” against many people.
